Differences Between Industrial 4G Router and Common Router

Author: Release time:2023-05-01 19:51:25Click:671

Industrial 4G routers have been widely used now, then what differences do they have with common routers?

Below are the main differences summarized by Blueone:

1. Application areas. Industrial 4G routers are mainly used in industrial areas such as electric power, industrial automation, environmental protection, finance, etc. However common routers are just used for home/soho/company.

2. Security level. Industrial 4G routers support SSL data encryption, VPN/PPTP/L2TP/IPSEC, and so on, however common routers do not need these.

3. Demand of Stability. Industrial 4G router supports automatic thread breakage detect, PING server and POLL functions. It also supports hardware watchdog and software restart. It has to keep working 7x24.

4. Work environment. Industrial 4G router need to operate in industrial and unattended environments such as extreme temperature, high humidity and electromagnetic interference. It must be dust-proof and anti-knock. However there is no special requirement for common router.

5. Power consumption. Industrial 4G router may be powered by solor energy, so power consumption will be lower. Common router adopts 220V DC and there is no special requirement for power consumption.

6. Connectivity methods. Industrial 4G router is networked via cellular, however common router is networked via ADSL dial.

7. Device interface. Except for Ethernet ports, industrial 4G router is usually equipped with industrial serial ports for example RS232/RS485 to connect with industrial automation equipment, however common router only has Ethernet ports.

8. Antennas. Industrial 4G router is usually installed in control cabinet, so it needs detachable antennas with extension cable to be installed out of the cabinet, however common router just need direct antennas.
